The Construction Management Program

The construction industry is the nation's largest industry employing over 10% of the workforce. There is a critical shortage of construction professionals to fill a variety of rewarding managerial and supervisory roles in this multi-faceted, dynamic industry. That void is continuing to grow. Program graduates receive excellent starting salaries and substantial opportunities for rapid advancement and pay increases as they gain industry experience. Career opportunities can be found throughout Arkansas and neighboring States. Construction Management graduates from the UALR's Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology (EIT) are equipped to meet the technical challenges of the 21st century and the highly specialized demands of the modern construction industry.

Students and graduates are prepared with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to achieve success in their chosen construction fields. State of the art classrooms and laboratories are equipped with cutting edge construction web and internet based software, Internet II access, and Virtual Reality Modeling. The Arkansas construction industry besides providing financial, technical, and advisory support to the Program also allows students to experience the dynamics of a real construction site. The Construction Management Advisory Board, comprised of Arkansas construction leaders, has helped to build the foundation for a Nationally recognized Construction Management Program geared to real-world applications and expertise.

Preparing Professional Constructors for the Technological Future

The Program's faculty philosophy on education is founded in the belief that adult students learn by doing and that their real-world experiences enhance a professor's ability to teach. This is reinforced by faculty teaching courses in their fields of construction experience and by hands on technical and computer laboratories. Local Industry support enhances the Program further by providing scholarships, internships, and high starting salaries. Over 98% of Construction Management students have full time employment before graduation.

A Diverse Curriculum for a Diverse Career

Program graduates are primarily employed by local constructors but opportunities exist through out Arkansas and surrounding areas. Graduates may also choose to work for design firms, government agencies, technical companies, manufacturers, fabricators, suppliers, and many have decided to start their own business. The options are almost limitless in such diverse fields as:

  • Commercial Construction
  • Heavy Highway Construction
  • Industrial Construction
  • Residential Construction
  • Retail & Tenant Improvement
  • Facilities Management
  • Equipment & Material Sales
  • US Army Corps of Engineers
