Elizabeth Pierce, Chair
Elizabeth Pierce is an Associate Professor of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). She joined the faculty in Fall 2006 as part of UALR’s efforts to launch the first Master of Science in Information Quality. Prior to coming to UALR, Elizabeth Pierce taught for 11 years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She holds a PhD in Statistics & Management Science from the University of Michigan, an MS in Computer Science from Iona College, and BS degrees in Quantitative Business Analysis and Mathematics from Penn State. The Information Science Department is a dynamic and multi-faceted department which serves its students and society in diverse ways. These ways include the Minor in Information Technology; the Bachelor’s degree (the standard 4-year college degree) in Information Science; the nation’s first Master’s degree in Information Quality (which as of 2008 also feeds into the Applied Science Ph.D. program); and Certificate, Minor, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in Bioinformatics administered through the department and serving both UA at Little Rock and UA for Medical Sciences. Dr. Seshadri Mohan, Chair
Formerly, CTO of IP SerVoniX , Telsima and Comverse , senior scientist at Telcordia and member of technical staff, Bell Laboratories; also, associate professor at Clarkson and Wayne State Universities; co-authored over 85 publications as books, patents, and research papers; co-authored the textbook Source and Channel Coding: An Algorithmic Approach ; contributed to several books, including Mobile Communications Handbook and The Communications Handbook ; holds several patents in wireless; recipient of SAIC 1997 Publication Prize for Information and Communications Technology ; served on the Editorial Boards of IEEE Personal Communications and IEEE Surveys ; received Ph.D. from McMaster University, Canada, Masters degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur , India, and the Bachelors degree from the University of Madras, India.
Computer Science Department
Dr. Srini Ramaswamy, Chair
Srini Ramaswamy earned his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 1994 from the Center for Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana in Lafayette ). He was formerly Chairperson of Computer Science at Tennessee Tech University , where he established the Software Automation and Intelligence Laboratory to on team-based software research and development to serve local and regional industries. His research interests are intelligent and flexible control systems; behavior modeling, analysis and simulation; and software stability and scalability, particularly in the design and development of better software systems for real-time control issues in manufacturing and other distributed, real-time applications.
Applied Science Department
Dr. Haydar Al-Shukri, Chair
Dr. Al-Shukri has his Ph.D. in geophysics from St. Louis University. He is also the director for the ArkansasEarthquakeCenter, a research and community outreach program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. His research interests are exploration geophysics, observational and computational seismology, crustal structure and tectonics, and earthquake activity of the central United States. His current research programs include pleoseismological investigation for risk assessment, nuclear monitoring, and environmental and near surface geophysics using Ground Penetrating Radar, magnetic, electric, and seismic methods.
Engineering Technology Department
Dr. Swaminadham Midturi, Chair
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. Several funded grants, including Predictive Maintenance Methodologies for Corpus Christi Army Depot and Research on Dynamics of Deployable Space Structures for NASA Johnson Space Center. Several honors and awards, including member of a delegation consisting of Harvard Institute for International Development and Princeton University to set up Science and Technology programs for Vietnam and the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship of West Germany.

Catherine Lowry, Coordinator
M.A. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. She is Program Coordinator for the Information Technology Minor, an innovative program for liberal arts students to acquire skills in technology. Prior to joining the College, she was on the faculty of the Speech Communication Department, a nationally certified trainer for Dale Carnegie Systems, and a training consultant.
